Suspect Case of PKI Content Uploader Reluctant to Apologize to Jokowi

Pojok Nasional. Jundi Kurniawan (27), a suspected spreader of hate speech through Instagram social media, refused to apologize to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for his upload content which accused Jokowi of being a follower of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI).


This was conveyed when he was given the opportunity to give a statement before the media crew at a press conference at the Directorate of Criminal Crimes of the Indonesian Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Dittipidsiber Bareskrim), Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta on Friday (11/23).


Initially, Jundi apologized to all members of his family, the Indonesian community, and the Indonesian Police institution. He also had time to ask God for forgiveness for what he had done.


"I apologize to my family, all Indonesian citizens, to the National Police. I also beg for forgiveness from Allah, my God for posting on my Instagram account," Jundi said.


However, the figure who was arrested by police in Aceh did not continue his apology to Jokowi. When asked by reporters regarding his reasons for not apologizing to Jokowi, Jundi stated that he was not the person who made or edited the content.


"It's not me who edits. It is on Instagram and I share it (share) myself," he explained.


From his activities on Instagram, Jundi also claimed to have received a lot of appreciation and praise through the direct message service available on Instagram. Jundi felt that he was a lay person and a free expression of civilians.


From there, he claimed not to think he would be arrested by the police for various content that he uploaded on his Instagram since the end of 2016.


Jundi's statement contradicts what the police said, stating that 843 of the 1,186 Jundi uploads were the result of his own edits using a photo editing application, Photoshop.


"At that time I rarely saw the news of the arrest (the hate speechist). I thought it was safe," said Jundi.


Jundi captured by the Dittipidsiber Bareskrim Polri Jundi was arrested on October 15, 2018 in the Aceh region. In launching the action, Jundi often changes Instagram accounts from SR23, suararakyat23id, sr23official, 23_official, suararakyat23b, suararakyat23id, to suararakyat23.ind.


Head of Dittipidsiber Subdirectorate I Bareskrim Polri Senior Commissioner Dani Kustoni said, Instagram accounts were made by Jundi regularly after one of the accounts was frozen by Instagram managers for violating the rules.


"Several times the account in question was suspended," Dani said while giving a press statement on Friday (11/23).


The police ensnared Jundi with Article 45 A paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (2) and or Article 45 paragraph 1 juncto Article 27 paragraph (1) of Law Number 19 Year 2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) and or Article 16 junto Article 4 letter b number 1 of Law Number 40 of 2008 concerning the Elimination of Racial and Ethnic Discrimination and or Article 4 paragraph (1) juncto Article 29 of Law Number 44 of 2007 concerning Pornography and or Article 157 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.


Jundi faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison and or a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.
